Dominican Republic residency

Visas and temporary or permanent residency permits for foreign nationals who wish to settle in the Dominican Republic.

The legal framework

A two-stage administrative process

Foreign nationals wishing to stay temporarily or permanently in the Dominican Republic must complete an administrative process that begins with a visa — in its various categories — and ends with a Residency Permit issued by the Directorate General of Immigration, in accordance with General Immigration Law No. 285-04 and its implementing regulations, approved by Decree No. 631-11 of 19 October 2011.

The process is now more complex and technical: applicants must request the visa at the Dominican Consulate in their country of origin and, to obtain it, submit a file with all their personal documents together with evidence that they have the financial means to live decently in Dominican territory.

The information on this page is general in nature, is subject to the rules in force and to the assessment of the immigration authority, and does not constitute legal advice. Contact us for an evaluation of your specific case.

The path, step by step

How we handle your file

We guide and assist our clients through every stage of the process.

Visa at the consulate

The application is filed at the Dominican Consulate in the applicant's country of origin or legal residence, under the category that matches their particular situation.

Preparing the file

This includes advice on obtaining the personal and corporate documents each process requires, together with the preparation and organization of the file, with particular attention to the documents evidencing the financial means supporting the application.

Filing with Immigration

Once the applicant holds the visa and is in the Dominican Republic, we assist with filing the case at the Directorate General of Immigration, so that it can assess the application and grant the corresponding Residency Permit.

Residency renewal application

We keep track of expiry dates and prepare the renewal application for the Residency Permit within the established deadlines.

Permanent and indefinite residency

Once the applicant meets the required period and has sufficient financial means, we can assist with the application for Permanent or Indefinite Residency in the Dominican Republic.
